The air supply to the fire can be reduced if there is excessive ash, causing poor combustion and clogging the fire. It is therefore important to regularly remove the ash.
1) For fires with grates, let the ash fall through the grate, making sure to leave a bed of ash to help with lighting the next fire. Ash acts as an insulator and helps keep the embers warm.
2) Empty the ash bin located under the combustion chamber every two to four days to avoid it overflowing and the grate becoming deformed.
